Alessi Johnson
Alessi Johnson obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Communication, from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. While in college, Alessi was awarded after ranking number one as the “Best Radio Journalist in the South,” by the Southeast Journalism Conference in 2011. In 2012, Alessi graduated as Summa Cum Laude of her graduating class. She was recognized as an Outstanding Senior in the Department of Liberal Arts for her work and study in Broadcast Communications. Shortly after graduating, Alessi landed a job in radio working as an On-Air Radio Personality for KNEK Magic 104.7, which broadcasts throughout Southwest Louisiana. Often referred to as an “Old Soul,” Alessi became the youngest African American female to grace the airwaves of an Urban Radio format geared towards a demographic of listeners ages 30 years or older at the age of 23. Her radio name was, “Joi Johnson.” She was given that name by her Program Director because he explained that Alessi’s voice brought about joy to others. Alessi also served as a member of the National Association of Black Journalist (NABJ).
After two years of working in Radio, Alessi switched gears and began working in the field of Social Services. Alessi believes her sole purpose in life is to help others, especially Women and Girls of Color. In Alessi’s work in Social Services, she has been recognized for her accomplishments as an “Outstanding Mentor” for serving at- risk youth in the Greater Dallas/Fort Worth area. Alessi is currently a Career Coach serving underprivileged women and men. She is helping them gain and find meaningful employment that will aid them in beginning their journey towards financial freedom. Alessi has also begun Public speaking engagements that caters to her passion of helping women and girls. She is also an aspiring model, as she has been featured in fashion shows across the DFW area, promoting the message of body positivity and representing plus size women of all ages.
Alessi is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She resides in Arlington, Texas with her husband and her daughter, Haven. This is Alessi’s first debut as a published author with more works to come. As one of the youngest Power Moms, Alessi’s hope is for the younger mothers reading this book to know that she is never too young to use the power she possesses to move mountains in her life to achieve her dreams!
