Janet T. Yarbrough

Janet Yarbrough.jpg

Janet is enjoying a new season in life.   After working nearly thirty years for the County of Los Angeles - primarily in management positions, she retired early so that she could spend more time with her children and to pursue other dreams.  She supplements her retirement income by working as an Independent Contractor performing jobs that allow her the flexibility to enjoy life while she waits to see what God has in store for her next.

Born in the nation’s capital, but raised in Southern California from infancy, she has been blessed with family and friends who love and support her and her children.   In retirement, however, she’s learned to treasure some new things.   Namely, that in addition to having more time to enjoy her home and her children, she now has the time and energy to reconnect and enjoy quality time with good friends.   She’s still learning to rest.

Janet loves to travel and to read and has a passion for youth and young adults who appreciate options for pursuing their best in life.  Naturally inquisitive, she doesn’t mind trying new adventures and loves learning new tasks.   She volunteered at her church for many years as a Discipleship Counselor and in the Financial office.  She has served as an Education Volunteer at the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific.  She has also served in a myriad of leadership positions as well as on committees with her former employer, her children’s schools and in her community.   She doesn’t take her relationship with Christ lightly and works to ensure that her children don’t either.

Janet has earned a Bachelors degree in Psychology from UCLA, a Master in Public Administration from California State University Dominguez Hills, and a Certificate of Advanced Professional Development from California State University Northridge.   Janet was initiated into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated in May 1990 and is a life member of the organization.

As a widow, she is the proud and devoted mother of two teenaged sons, Jonathan and Jared – who are not by any means perfect, but are perfect for her.   They have been a joy to raise and are growing into wonderful young men.  She is also the proud aunt of Elise and William whom she also loves and guides as if they were her own children.
